The Art of the Brick ...

It all starts with one little brick,
Little plastic bricks,
Slot them together,
Build your imagination
Build the world
A little while ago now they went to London,
to the Truman Brewery on Brick Lane,
to see ‘The Art of the Brick’
The exhibition of Lego sculptures,
Created by Nathan Sawaya, ex lawyer.
Over one million standard little bricks,
Over one hundred sculptures,
statues … and ‘paintings’.
Sawaya is New York based,
And the first artist ever to take Lego into the art world.
I like using LEGO bricks as a medium because I enjoy seeing people’s reaction to artwork created from something with which they are familiar.
…My goal is to elevate this simple plaything to a place it has never been before.
I also appreciate the cleanliness of the LEGO® brick.
The right angles. The distinct lines.
But, from a distance, those right angles and distinct lines offer new perspectives, changing to curves.”
Nathan Sawaya

The ‘Art of the Brick’ is a global travelling exhibition,
and continues it’s London run until 12th April.
Go see it if you can …

Fairy Tales

She has been absent for a little while,
Living her fairy tale.
But fairy tales have bad bits too, don’t they?
With fiery dragons, witches who poison and bullies that scare.
Loss, pain and dread.

Their ‘Once upon a time’ has been challenging so far.
2015 has bullied them.
Work issues, broken cars, broken people,
But, they backstep, sidestep,
Running along, trying to get back on track.

She thought about retiring her little blog,
But likes the clickety clack of words that her fingers tap,
And the memories on her page.

Her fairy tale progresses,
She has plans.
She will weather the downs, and relish the ups …
Her life is hers and she will live it,
As best she can.
Page by page.

Always hoping,
For their … happily ever after.

Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all ...

They went to a party with lovely friends ...
Dress code ... Christmas jumper
She made a Christmas dinner jumper with real Brussel sprouts and pigs in blankets!
The trees are trimmed ... the lights are twinkling ...
VJ wishes all their friends near and far ...
a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
And hopes every day for peace on Earth  ...
and goodwill to all.

Time to breathe ...

As the sun rises it seems the sun sets.
Her time passes flash fast.
Her night buzzes with bright flickers of a day gone,
And another yet to come.
Ticks in boxes and jobs done.

Her nest has become prickly.
They escape briefly,
And occasionally.
Enjoying it all the more.
For the freedom it gives them,
From tedium and chore.

On the page this week.
A square of time
Just for them, her man and her boy,
In a downy nest.
A little time for softer,
curve edged thoughts.

Some breathing space.

Quirky display spotted outside a bar near Soho last weekend,
before they attended the soft launch of the new
Ivy Restaurant in Covent Garden with a group of lovely friends.

Oh, she had a wonderful time ...

... at the Selvedge Winter Fair,
in Chelsea Town Hall
Escaping their family trip to London
for a couple of hours ...
she savoured some 'me time',
and wandered the hall,
entranced by beautiful stands ...
So much creativity ...
originality, minute detail ...
There was vintage,
and ancient,
fair trade,
sewing notions and haberdashery,
the most beautiful hand printed fabrics,
statement jewellery,
and the softest alpaca socks in every colour imaginable.
tweeds and the cosiest blankets.
All of the highest quality,
in a wonderful setting.
She came away happy,
with a little bag of purchases!

She met up with her man and little guy
at the gallery down the road ...
where mutant ants were running amok ...
Later they wandered the South Bank,
watching revellers enjoy the warmest Halloween on record.

As the days grow colder ...

and the nights get darker,
she remembers summer days ...
fields of Tuscan sunflowers ...
and tinkling bells around the necks of mountain goats ...
Gingerly crossing a gently swaying bridge,
suspended over a river ...
swimming in clear mountain water.
She remembers the unending sound of water over rock,
cricket clicks, heat haze blur
and the warmth of the sun on her face.
She has a longing in her that will not go away ...
